Paul is responsible for developing and implementing a new and refreshed Business Finance approach across Greater Manchester. In his role he has developed a range of innovative, market-leading, alternative finance products and services that meet the needs of business, the local economy and wider Government funds across England.
Meeting clients’ business finance needs, and responding to the priorities of Greater Manchester’s economic strategy, Paul controls a strong team of experienced debt and equity professionals that ensure effective use of publicly funded resources, robust lending/investment decisions and appropriate responses to local needs and national policy.
Peter was a Non-executive director of BFS for 8 years while working for NatWest where he worked in the Commercial Banking team, looking after a portfolio of Commercial customers. He joined the Senior Management team of BFS in 2014 to following the exceptional levels of growth that the business had seen over the previous two years, and is now responsible for managing both the risk and also continued development of BFS through innovative product development to enable businesses to access to funding which will help them to grow and contribute to the continued growth and strength of the GM economy.
Outside of BFS after retiring from amateur football Peter still enjoys keeping fit, travel and socialising.
Having finished his A Level Course Roger was employed in NatWest Bank from 1978 to 2002 operating in a variety of roles including Senior Managers Assistant/Lending Officer, Small Business Adviser, Assistant Manager, Lending Unit Manager, specialising in Small Business Lending with discretionary lending authority.
In 2005 Roger joined Business Finance Solutions as a Loan Manager, became Senior Loan Manager in 2011 and since 2014 has been the Head of Start Up & Business Lending with responsibility for lending to SMEs across, GM & the Northwest with annual expected investments in excess of £20 million.
He is currently helping to deliver the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.
Andy Jupp, Head of Credit and Risk joined The Enterprise Fund Limited in 2002, following a 21 years at HSBC working within International Trade on both operations and Credit Department, before becoming a Commercial Manager lending predominantly to SME’s in North Manchester. Andy initially jointed the business as a Loan Manager with responsibility for lending to SME’s from £3, 000 to £50, 000 and then as the business grew and developed concentrated more on the credit and risk side of the business.
Andy’s key responsibilities are to ensure all aspects of risk and compliance across the business loan portfolios of c £50m are identified and managed to ensure the business is not exposed to potential unidentified risk. Andy’s hobbies include football and golf and keeping rare parrots.
Richard joined BFS in 2013 after relocating to Manchester as a Start Up Loan Credit Control Officer. After showing his commitment within the company Richard progressed into Credit & Risk Manager in 2015 where he is now responsible in ensuring that BFS delivers an efficient and effective Credit Administration & Credit Control process across all lending products to customers and partners.
Richard has over 20 years’ experience of working in the credit industry for both UK and global market leaders that pride themselves on striving to deliver an excellent customer experience and his career development has allowed him to gain professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Credit Management.
Louise is a long standing and established manager having joined BFS in 2008. Her drive, determination and engagement plays a key part in the continued growth and success of the business. As the Business Operations Manager Louise is responsible for change management within the business and playing a key part in building relationships and services as the business grows, as well as managing the business administration & loan processing teams.
Gary joined BFS in 2010 after four and a half years at the Northwest Regional Development Agency, where he was Business Finance Development Manager. During his time at the Agency, he managed the informal equity service Northwest Business Angels (NWBA) and developed financial products worth £40 million, including the SME loan scheme Small Loans for Business, leveraging funding from ERDF NW Programme 2007-2013.
At BFS his role is to secure capital and contracts which allow BFS to continue to develop and deliver a broad range of alternative finance products. Which to date include: GM Business Loans, the NEA Loan scheme, Start-up Loans, Co Angel Investment, the GM Export Fund and the NW Micro Loan Fund.
After graduating from Manchester University with a degree in Economics, Gary consolidated his knowledge at KPMG, before running a successful event management company for 20 years.
Experienced in a number of industries including hospitality, construction and retail, Alex can relate to many of the entrepreneurs and businesses that engage with BFS and applies this first-hand knowledge to his job duties. A skilled underwriter and a brilliant relationship manager, Alex is considered a valued member of the lending team and is held in high esteem by colleagues and stakeholders alike.
Alex has a track record of going above and beyond for clients, and this was recognised with his nomination for ‘2015 Outstanding Loan Officer of the Year Award.’ In early 2015, the then UK Prime Minister Rt Hon David Cameron visited a start-up business that Alex had assisted through the Start-Up Loans scheme.
His personal interests include reading, listening to music and following Leeds United Football Club
Mark currently delivers government backed funding for both start up and existing growth businesses in the North West, primarily working with BFS’s The North West Fund for Micro Loans. Mark’s role involves taking a judgemental lending approach to structure business loans for businesses where mainstream lending is unobtainable.
He has experience in supporting local SME businesses with over 7 Years Portfolio Management in the SME asset based lending sector including; Invoice finance, Asset Finance, Trade finance to various sectors. Funding; new starts, pre-packs & phoenix businesses & MBI’s. Mark has achieved an ABFA Diploma comprising in Operational aspects/Risk, & Financial Understanding.
John joined BFS in August 2005 after over 25 years working for HSBC Bank. At the time he left to join BFS, John was a Premier Relationship manager working with a portfolio of commercial and personal customers.
Following several years working on the BFS core lending product John is currently BFS’ Senior Start Up Loans Manager. His main duties include responsibility for overseeing judgemental lending proposals ranging from £500 to £25,000 from budding new entrepreneurs under the Start Up Loans Scheme. Additionally John’s role includes maintaining and developing new relationships with Start Up Loans Delivery Partners in the North West and nationwide. Understanding the issues and risks that new entrepreneurs face combined with enthusiasm and empathy are key traits in his role.
In his spare time John enjoys being a member of his local pub quiz team and enjoys many sports.
Darren joined BFS in May 14 as a Start Up Loans Collections Team Leader. The role was to create and implement a collections Team with a strategy for the Start Up Loans scheme, whilst following guidelines set by the Financial Conduct Authority. He now manages a team of seven debt collectors.
Darren has worked in the Debt Industry for 20 years now in all areas from Loan Origination through to Debt Collection, Debt Management and even Debt Litigation. Darren has a positive personality and a knack for problem solving that allows him to find solutions for clients, allowing him to do his job to a high standard.
Andy was employed for a HSBC for 29 years in their Commercial, Corporate and Invoice Finance divisions. Since then, Andy has worked for independent financial institutions, a specialist trade finance bank and has also run his own company. This wide experience has given him an excellent understanding of the financial needs and requirements of businesses.
Andy joined BFS in early 2014, and has drawn on his experience providing loans to Greater Manchester based small and medium sized businesses.
He is currently helping to deliver the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.
Jasmin started with BFS in May 2015 transitioning from the Education sector to Finance. Jasmin has worked within Business Administration since leaving college and is Level 3 qualified in Business Administration.
Jasmin’s previous experience within business administration has brought with her desire for high standards of performance, demonstrated by implementing and managing a full processing system for Co Angel Investment Service.
Jasmin has since progressed to assisting the Senior Investment Director, Operations Director and Director of Business Finance on a daily basis and has a key role in helping to deliver the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.
